How to Survive a Long Flight

How stir crazy would you get on a 10 hour flight?! What can you really do to keep yourself from going nuts sitting in a seat for a long period of time?!!! All long flights do not have to be miserable! Here are a few tips for your next long flight.

The best thing to do is upgrade your seats to first class. It would be so much nicer to have leg room to stretch out and chairs that fully recline, verses the ones that tip back a tiny bit. Also, the meals and entertainment are better in first class as well.

Boeing's much-anticipated 787 carried its first passengers Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 on a four-hour, 8-minute flight filled with cheers, picture-taking and swapping of aviation stories. Bring stuff to do, like bring work with you. Why not catch up on some work before you forget about all your worries when your laying on the beach?! Before your trip load up some movies or TV shows on to your laptop and catch up on those! Bring your headphones as well so you do not bother any one else too! But, this way you can kick back and relax! You can also buy movies on the plane to watch in case your not computer savvy. Do not bring too much stuff either, that could really cramp your leg room! Also, a book or a word search (or something of that nature) could also occupy your time as well. A great book, the type that you can not put down, would be an excellent choice for this long flight!

Do not think your going to sleep the whole flight (unless you have some sleeping pills or you can sleep anywhere). But if your eyes get droopy and you feel tired, just go with it and take a nap. Make sure you have all your belongings secure. Do not be too trusting when it comes to others that are traveling around you. Make sure your money, credit cards, and other important documents are on you. Secure other things like your lap top or Ipad in a bag under your seat as well.

If you are going to use a sleep aid, make sure you try them out before you fly. Each pill affects people differently. Your friend may say “I sleep like a baby when taking this pill.” If you took it, it could just make you drowsy and not make you fall asleep. So please, try it out before you fly! We do not want you disappointed.

Make sure when you book your flight you sit in a good place. Do not sit close to the bathrooms, you will have a lot of loud foot traffic. Try not to sit in an exist row either, it could be a very uncomfortable seat. Try and get a window seat if you can. Then you do not have to let everyone one in and out of your row when they need to use the restroom. Especially if your taking a sleep aid, it would be pretty hard to wake up!

Stay hydrated — everyone is breathing the same recirculated air for a long time. Try and stay away from the meats on a flight, they are packed with sodium. Just try and pack your own snacks, like a fresh fruit bowl or a salad. If that is not convenient think of healthier options too!
